Data explorer: choose the variables, the chart follows

Pick one, two or three variables. The explorer reads whether each is numeric or categorical, and how skewed it is, then draws the chart that fits: histogram, scatter, box plot, heatmap or small multiples. The data is Gapminder's panel of 142 countries, every five years from 1952 to 2007.

The selection rules

The row in use is highlighted. Skewed numeric variables (population and GDP) are drawn on log scales.

Source
Gapminder country panel (life expectancy, population, GDP per person in inflation-adjusted international dollars), 1952–2007 at five-year intervals, as distributed with the Plotly public datasets.
Derived variables
Total GDP is population times GDP per person. Change in life expectancy is measured against the same country five years earlier, so 1952 has no value. Prosperity quartile ranks countries by GDP per person within each year. Period splits the panel at 1980.
